Heated Stones and Steam
What Is a Traditional Indoor Sauna?
A traditional sauna is a wood room with a heater that warms a load of sauna stones. Ladle a little water onto the hot stones for a burst of steam.
Indoor models use an electric heater, so there is no chimney or wood to manage. Every Leisurecraft indoor sauna we sell is electric only, and the heater is sold separately so you can choose the model and controls you want.
Choosing a Size
Six Made-in-Canada Indoor Models
Start with how many people will use the sauna, then compare the outside dimensions with your room. Sizes are width × depth × height.
- Element Nook (606003): seats 1–2. 54.75″ × 54.75″ × 88.06″ (139 × 139 × 224 cm).

Sizing an Electric Heater
Match the Heater to the Room
Electric sauna heaters are rated by the room volume they can heat. Glass and ceiling height also affect sizing, so ask us to confirm the heater for your model.
- Element Nook: 93 ft³ (2.6 m³) inside. Leisurecraft recommends a 4.5 kW electric heater.
- Element Loft: 135 ft³ (3.8 m³). Leisurecraft recommends a 6 kW electric heater.
- Element Studio: 191 ft³ (5.4 m³). Leisurecraft recommends a 6 kW electric heater.
- Indoor Cabin: 140 ft³ (3.96 m³). Pure Cube PU552: 159 ft³ (4.5 m³). Pure Cube PU572: 227 ft³ (6.4 m³).
Each heater lists its own range. For example, the HUUM DROP 4.5 kW is rated for 100–250 ft³ and the HUUM CLIFF 6 kW for up to 355 ft³. Compare models on our Huum sauna heaters and Homecraft sauna heaters pages.
What You Need to Install an Indoor Sauna
Plan the Room, Access and Wiring
These saunas ship in a crate for assembly in your home. Crate weights run from 511 lb (232 kg) for the Element Nook to 1,335 lb (605 kg) for the Pure Cube PU572. Before you order:
- Room: plan for a level floor and check your ceiling height against the sauna height above. The Pure Cube solid wood floor option adds 4″ (10 cm).
- Access: measure doorways, hallways and stairs on the way to the room.
- Electrical: a licensed electrician needs to wire the heater and controller. They can tell you what your panel needs and which permits apply where you live.
- Heater and controls: choose these separately, as no heater is included.
An infrared sauna warms you with infrared emitters or carbon heating panels instead of heating the air around you, so it runs at a lower air temperature than a traditional sauna. Infrared-only models have no heater stones and no water for steam.
We carry Saunacore INFRA-CORE and HORIZON infrared saunas in cedar, plus the INFRA-CORE Dual, which pairs infrared emitters with a traditional heater. From Costway, we carry 1, 2 and 4 person far infrared saunas in Canadian hemlock. Electrical needs vary by model, from a dedicated 120 V plug to a 240 V connection, so check the requirements on each product page. Browse all infrared saunas.

INDOOR SAUNA FAQ
Yes. The Element, Pure Cube indoor and Indoor Cabin models are Leisurecraft indoor saunas. For a backyard sauna, see our outdoor saunas.
No. These indoor models are electric only.
Leisurecraft recommends 4.5 kW for the Element Nook and 6 kW for the Element Loft and Studio. For the Indoor Cabin and Pure Cube models, we will match a heater to the interior volume.
A licensed electrician should wire the heater and controller and confirm any permits needed where you live.
A traditional sauna uses a heater and sauna stones, and you can add steam by pouring water on the stones. An infrared sauna uses infrared heaters instead. See our infrared saunas to compare.
An infrared sauna warms you directly while the air in the room stays at a lower temperature. A traditional sauna heats the air, and water poured over the heater stones adds steam. Choose based on the heat you prefer and whether you want steam.
It depends on the model. Some Saunacore models list a dedicated 120 V, 15 or 20 amp plug, and larger models need 240 V. Costway says to have an electrician install a 20 amp outlet and breaker. Check each product page for the requirements.
