Electric Heaters & Wood-Burning Stoves

Electric sauna heaters. Choose from HUUM DROP, STEEL, CLIFF, HIVE Mini and HIVE; Homecraft H-Series, Revive Slim, Revive and Apex; and Saunacore residential and commercial heaters. The same kW rating can cover a different room range from one series to the next, so check the manual's figures for the exact model.

Wood-burning sauna stoves. Options include the HUUM HIVE Wood-Burning heater, the HIVE Wood-Burning LS with exterior wood loading, and Saunacore Country Living wood stoves. HUUM's HIVE Wood manual rates the HIVE Wood 13 for 212–459 ft³ and the HIVE Wood 17 for 283–565 ft³, with a T600-rated chimney of at least 15.81 in² cross-section. The stove must be connected to the chimney by a specialist (HUUM HIVE Wood sauna stove manual, North America).

Every HUUM electric heater needs stones and a separate certified sauna control panel. HUUM's UKU controller works with heaters up to 11 kW; the HIVE 12, 15 and 18 need the UKU extension box. For each uninsulated brick, tile or glass wall, HUUM says to add 3.3 ft³ to the room volume for every 1 ft² of that wall. HUUM recommends connecting its heaters without a GFCI breaker, and only a certified electrician may connect them. Minimum safety distances to walls and ceiling are listed in each heater's manual.

For the Revive and Apex heaters, check the room size, breaker and wire figures in Homecraft's installation manual for the exact model, or ask us. The H-Series manual lists 42" clearance to the ceiling and a 78" minimum ceiling height, and the Revive Slim manual lists 3.5" to combustible materials. Homecraft heaters use a low-voltage Homecraft digital touchpad with a relay contactor box. Homecraft advises against a GFCI breaker for its sauna heaters unless local electrical code requires one.

How to Choose a Sauna Heater

Match output to room volume

Measure length × width × height in feet for the room volume, then pick a model whose manual range covers it. HUUM says to add 3.3 ft³ for each 1 ft² of uninsulated brick, tile or glass wall (HUUM heater manuals). Homecraft's sizing guide and manuals give their own ranges for each model.

Plan the electrical early

Most heaters here run on 240V, 1-phase, and some are available for 208V. The breaker and wire size depend on the model, from a 20 A breaker for HUUM's 4 kW Mini heaters to two 50 A breakers for the HIVE 18 (manufacturer manuals). A licensed electrician must make the connection.

Pick a compatible control

HUUM heaters need a separate certified control panel; the UKU works with heaters up to 11 kW and needs an extension box for larger HIVE models. Homecraft heaters pair with Homecraft TKE touchpads; the H-Series manual specifies the TKE2-2.
